Character
Name: Kirikou "Kilik" Rung
Series: Soul Eater
Timeline: End of canon
Canon Resource Links: Kirikou Rung
Personality: As one of the minor characters, Kirikou doesn't get as much backstory or development as some of the main cast. This is unfortunate, since as a character he is quite fascinating! He's one of the top three strongest meisters in the Academy, a teenager who is already seemingly responsible for two small children, and one of the only characters in the series who can establish a soul resonance connection with FOUR different demon weapons at the same time! (One of the main characters, Death the Kid, is the son of a god basically and even he can only manage two.) With what we've seen in canon, we can establish that Kirikou has the follow traits: a strong sense of loyalty, a fierce temper that comes with it, the ability to keep his calm in combat situations, a maturity not usually seen in teenagers that comes with raising children, and a sense of immaturity that somehow still manages to shine through.
He's still a teenager, after all.
Like many characters in the Soul Eater canon, Kirikou can be startlingly mature when the situation calls for it. This is what happens when you're raised as basically child soldiers. Combat scenes and stuff that would make normal people flinch won't reach him as hard. He probably won't even think it's that strange that it's normal to make small animals (which sometimes grow into giant animals) fight. This also means his worldview is a bit skewed. In a world where it's commonly expected those with meister or weapon abilities to go into it as young as possible, Kirikou won't see the issue with many things that those in more 'normal' worlds would. The primary example would be learning to fight for your life at only thirteen (and younger). Considering the dangerous opponents meisters have to face (such as serial killers at the very least and Witches at the worst), he also has had to acknowledge that dying is a thing that can happen out in the field, either for himself or his loved ones. While it's never explicitly stated in canon, life expectancy for meisters and weapons is probably lower than some other worlds because of the constant fighting they are required to do. Fortunately this doesn't seem to be something that bothers Kirikou often, as he is shown to be one of the characters with a fairly high confidence in himself and his partners. Even when he is left without his weapons against dangerous foes, he almost seems to be more comically frightened than truly worried and in a later scene is shown to have evaded most of them with little trouble until his team can come in and save his ass.
As a 13-15 year old who has been taking care of two young children, it stands to reason that he's also a good nurturing figure and fairly responsible even moreso than some Academy students already are. Canon never explains how Kirikou came to be partnered with two weapons who are extremely young, whether it's something to do with his (canonly "Sir Not-Appearing-In-This-Film") family or that Fire and Thunder may be orphans. However, he seems to take care of them very well just by the fact that they are willing to stand by him in dangerous situations as his weapon partners. When they are distressed, he shows concern for them and is not afraid to show his gentleness by actively kneeling down so that they can come into his arms. While he does play a parental role to them, he also seems to treat them as equals to some degree and shows trust in their abilities. An example of this is the two times he's paid attention when they've communed with the earth as shamans. There is no doubt shown from him in what they're communicating or their skills. He accepts it's truth that magic has corrupted a natural area, and he also relies on them to find a hidden place. This speaks a lot about both his trust in those he views as friends and teammates, and also in the world he has grown up in where children are expected to be skilled in things that a more "real world" like setting would attribute to belong to adults.
Of course, he's far from serious all the time. In canon, he's gotten into fights with Black Star over a chocolate bar (while they were in the middle of a warzone although not yet involved) and has teased his friends. He's also gotten excited in regards to his friends, cheering on Ox to 'get the girl' and rescue her. Anyone who is a bit different from him is viewed as a bit odd in that way that teenagers sometimes slip into. When Ox and Maka start to compare notes about one of Soul's recently gained abilities, he brushes off their nerdgasm as something that belongs to small brained water fleas. (A bit hypocritical considering his own apparent love of music when he immediately starts to talk to Soul about a drum he found on his own mission. Maka even refers to him, when properly translated, that he and Soul are basically the same as her and Ox.) While he doesn't seem to mean it with any honest ill will, it's just one of those flaws he has as a teenager still a little bit wrapped up in his own world. It seems he's just as likely to get into shenanigans as well, although not as much as when he was thirteen.
Loyalty is a strong theme in Soul Eater, and Kirikou isn't exempt from having such a trait. When they finally get attacked in the warzone mentioned earlier, Kirikou shows a desire not to leave his teammates Kim and Ox behind on their own and works with them to beat the enemy force. He also shows his maturity in giving up the chocolate bar to Black Star so he can "keep up his strength". That same intense loyalty is also apparent when Kim is forced to run away from the Academy. He immediately gets enraged that she was chased away and still believes that she is on their side. This scene and those after it also display his temper, however. He's immediately enraged that his friend Ox is not as angry as he is, and later shows rage that they have to team up with the very person who outed Kim in the first place. In fact, he tells it to that person's face right as they're on a mission. It's only because of his loyalty to his friends (Ox showing confidence and trust in him) that has him go along with it in the first place.
In short, Kirikou is quite an extraordinary young man who's still finding the perfect balance of maturity and childishness, and with a deep intense caring for those who have earned his friendship.
Strengths/Weaknesses: As someone from a world where children are taught to be excellent in combat from an alarmingly young age, Kirikou is pretty used to it already. While it's not shown all the time in canon, he's shown some inclinations of being pretty intelligent in regards to tactics. He starts to go through all the different moves he can make when faced with someone who can calculate his every move (although that didn't last long since overload on his enemy's part) and has easily switched from guns to giant fists when partnered with four weapons at a time. This means that when he comes to Johto, he'll both adapt pretty quickly to its Pokemon battle centered culture and he'll also be pretty good when it comes to figuring out battle tactics. (Type advantages, status effects, etc.)
As something of a father/big brother figure to a pair of children (who also function as giant beat down fists) back in his world already, Kirikou is actually a pretty caring and loyal individual to begin with. Any Pokemon that end up with him will be treated like children and partners both, a strange combination but one that Kirikou is used to. He'll also become extremely loyal to his team, no matter how annoying they are. This counts for traveling partners, too.
The problem with having such a strong tendency to loyalty also means he's strongly affected when anything happens to them, he'll end up affected just as strongly. A lot of the times, it'll be a temper- mess with his friends or his team and you've got a fist fight on your hands. He can also become disturbed, however, especially if his Pokemon are. (A canon example would be when Harvar ruthlessly but efficiently destroyed a cute toy bunny that had been distracting Fire and Thunder. The two children were terrified of the act, and it was clear by Kirikou's expression that he was disconcerted at the least as well.)
While it's not a super obvious trait, Kirikou can also be a bit closeminded at times. When facing an opponent who kept suddenly using a sumo slap in the middle of their fight, Kirikou commented on how useless it was. A reasonable enough assumption... but he then also went to comment on how it was practiced by 'sweaty fat pigs'. Needless to say, if Kirikou doesn't understand it and it gives off a 'useless' impression to him, he'll dismiss it and maybe even show a bit of disdain. He might not be able to get into Breeding, for example, and some aspects of other characters' cultures might not interest him or even annoy him. Hopefully no fights will start out...

You know what really makes it a drag traveling around all the time? This music could kill me with how boring it is.
[Yep, that's the complaint of the day. Not the "I've been kidnapped from my home and most of my loved ones". Not the "Team Rocket is stealing my Pokemon, what is Officer Jenny doing". Not even "Dude, where's my cool shiny powers". Clearly the music is the important thing here.]
There's no energy to it, no beat to move to. It's just the same boring stuff. At least it's a little better when I'm battling... [Which is the reason why he's been getting into so many battles. Maybe.]
What sort of music have you guys listened to back home? And, be honest with me, does it get any sort of better here?
Third Person Sample:
It feels weird to leave all the fighting to someone else.
As long as he can remember, Kirikou has always been the one to go charging in so that his teammates could stick behind. Ox was never support, but he had always done best when he was outside with plenty of room to use his lightning. The same could be said for Kim. But him? Him and Fire and Thunder could more than happily make use of all the room the outsides gave them. Yet when it came down to it, they were close combat fighters and did things literally hand to hand. It was what they were best at. So whenever he sees an opponent, it's always his first thought. It's him that should be getting right in there. It's him that should be cleaning up.
So yeah, it feels pretty weird to be taking a back seat and just yelling out commands and crap. What if he gets rusty? Losing your touch is something no good meister wants, and Kirikou is no different.
So every morning, he wakes up his Sawk with a grin and a shoulder punch. Best Pokemon he could have got here in Johto- or one of two anyway. It's a spar like every day, something to keep them on their toes. It helps his Sawk gets stronger, and it helps Kirikou, too. Even if he has to rely on his Pokemon in this place, he wants them to be able to rely on him, too. Not just for orders in a Pokemon battles, either. If they watch his back, then he'll watch his. That's just how it works.
And he can't be weak for that.
So he practices every day, sometimes with Throh, sometimes with Sawk, or both of them together. Sometimes his Doduo even gets involved. Just to spice things up. At the end of every morning, none of them are unsatisfied.
